How does it impact the country, and how should the government address immigration?
Not everyone in America was born in America. Some people come from other countries to live in America. They are called immigrants. A big issue in our country is how we want to handle immigration. People have opinions on how many immigrants come into the country, what kind of documentation they need, and if immigrants already in the country without documentation should be able to live in the United States. Documentation is papers proving that you have permission from the government to stay in the US. Immigrants who don’t have documentation are called undocumented immigrants.
Two different points of views
It is important to note that general immigration is different from unauthorized crossings, especially along the US-Mexico border. Currently, the issue of undocumented immigrants is usually the issue that is being referred to.
The left
Believes in more immigrants coming into the country and diversifying society.
Believe that undocumented immigrants already in the country shouldn’t be deported.
Generally believe in less strict immigration laws, less deportations, because it leads to more diversity in our country.
The right
Believe in less immigrants coming into the country as they take jobs from people born in the US.
Often believe that undocumented immigrants should be deported even if they are already in the country. Some conservatives believe that the children of undocumented immigrants born in the US should be deported.
Sometimes refer to undocumented immigrants as “illegal immigrants”.
Believe in more border security to prevent people coming in illegally.
